How Stretching Boosts Performance
Stretching is often treated as optional, but research shows it can significantly improve both performance and recovery. Building flexibility and mobility into your routine helps prevent injuries, increase range of motion, and support long-term gains.
Dynamic vs. Static Stretching
Dynamic stretching: Performed before exercise, involves controlled movements like leg swings or arm circles. Prepares muscles and joints for activity.
Static stretching: Holding a stretch for 20–60 seconds, best after workouts to relax muscles and improve flexibility.
Why Stretching Matters
Injury Prevention – Flexible muscles and joints are less prone to tears and strains.
Improved Form – Good mobility enhances posture and technique in lifts and sprints.
Reduced Soreness – Stretching increases blood flow, speeding up recovery.
Daily Stretching Routine
Even 10 minutes per day can make a difference. A simple routine might include hamstring stretches, hip openers, chest expansions, and shoulder stretches.
Common Mistakes
Bouncing during stretches, holding your breath, or stretching only one area are common pitfalls. Aim for balance — stretch both upper and lower body, left and right sides.
